The Little Mermaid has been sitting ion her rock since 1913. She was a gift from the founder of the Carlsberg Brewery, Carl Jacobsen. The sculpture, by Edvard Eriksen, is made of Bronze and sits on a granite rock, which is accessible at low tide. The sculpture was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's story of a Mermaid, who falls in love with a human Prince, who does not love her. The Little Mermaid has been attacked and has been beheaded twice, has once had her arm cut off and has been splattered with red paint. A few years ago the words, 'Free Hong Kong' were painted on her.

The Danish Resistance Museum is housed underground, in a new building, opened in 2020. The previous museum building burnt down in 2013, but luckily most of the items in the collection were saved. The museum tells the story of life under the German occupation of 1940 to 1945, with a particular focus on the activities of the Danish Resistance Groups.

The Gefion Fountain is dedicated to the goddess Gefion, who turned her sons into oxen and ploughed the Island of Sjælland out of earth from Sweden. The fountain was paid for by the Carlsberg Foundation and designed by the Danish sculptor Anders Bundgaard , who sculpted it between 1897 and 1899.The basin was completed in 1908, the same year that the fountain was first activated.

The Amalienborg Palaces date back to the 1760s, with the Royal Family moving in in 1794, when Christiansborg Castle burnt down. There are 4 Palaces here: Christian VIIs Palace, Christian VIII's Palace, Frederik VIII's Palace and Christian IX's Palace. Frederik VIII's Palace is where King Frederik X and Queen Mary stay, when they are in Copenhagen. The Life Guards take part in the changing of the guard here, every day at Midday.

The Marble Church or Frederiks Church was commissioned by King Frederik V and designed by Nicolai Eigtved, in 1740. Eigved died in 1754 and after his death the construction process began to slow down, with it stopping in 1770. In the late 1800s Ferdinand Melhdahl took over the design and due to a restricted budget, built the remaining portion of the church using limestone instead of marble. The Dome on top of the church is the third largest church dome in Europe.

Christiansborg is where the Danish parliament, which is called Folketing, meets. The present building dates back to 1928. Below the building are the old ruins of the first Copenhagen Castle, which was built in 1167, by Bishop Absalon. The first Christiansborg Palace was built by King Christian VI in 1740. In 1992 Christianborg's Church's roof caught fire, with the repairs being completed in 1997. Christiansborg is where you can find King Frederik X's throne and where he waved from the balcony, when he was installed by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, as King. There are no coronations in Denmark.

Børsen is the old Stock Exchange building, which dates back to the 1620s and was built by King Christian IV and functioned as a stock exchange right up into the 1800s. Originally the upper floors were used as a marketplace to trade physical commodities. Today the building is owned by Dansk Erhverv, which is one of Denmark's biggest business and employers organisation. The spire above the building is made up of intertwined Dragons' tails.

When it was built, there was accommodation for naval officers in nearby Bremerholm. Inside the Church, there are models of ships hanging from the ceiling.

Kingens Nytorv was commissioned in 1670 by King Christian V. It is inspired by the Place d'Vendôme in Parism and was designed to be the centre of Copenhagen. Kongens Nytorv lies between the shopping street Strøget and Nyhavn, the old harbour area. The statue in the middle is of Christian V and was placed there in 1688. It is the oldest Royal statue in Copenhagen. Around Kongens Nytorv are the Royal Theatre and the Royal Academy of Arts, housed in the former Charlottenborg Palace.

The Black Diamond, as it is known, was built in 1999 and houses the extension of the Royal Danish Library. It was designed by Schmidt, Hammer and Larsen and is built of black granite from Zimbabwe. It is attached, by a bridge to the main library building, which was built in 1906 by Hans J. Holm. There is a reading room, a music room, plus a cafe and bookshop.

Langebro is a bridge that opens to allow large ships to pass through the harbour. It was built in 1954 and designed by Kaj Gottlob. It is 7 metres or 21 feet high and 35 metres or 106 feet long and is owned by Copenhagen City Council. The first Langebro was a bridge made of wood in 1690, which was built by King Christian V. In 2019 the concrete in the bridge was found to have been damaged by rainwater and so repair work started, which will cost 307 million Kroner or €40 million.

Nyhavn was built between 1671 and 1673 by Swedish prisoner of war. The oldest house in Nyahvn is Nyhavn 9, which dates back to 1681. Back in the 1970s, Nyhavn was a rougher area, but it was renovated in the 1980s and today is full of restaurants and pavement cafes. Hans Christian Andersen lived in Nyhavn at different times in no.18, 20 and 67. The memorial ancher at the end of Nyhavn was place there in 1951, as memorial to Danish merchant seamen, who lost their lives during the second World War.
